BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong 2011 season highlighted by its fifth straight Patriot League Tournament appearance, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team has announced its postseason team awards. Senior Lauren Dykstra earned Athlete of the Year honors while Scholar-Athlete of the Year went to junior Leigh Ann Torcivia and the Coaches Award to senior Kindall Healy.
Dykstra enjoyed the best statistical season of her career in 2011, posting a career-high 86 points via a career-high 72 goals and 14 assists. One highlight came against Virginia Tech when she scored four goals to become the Lehigh and Patriot League all-time career leader in that category. She finished her career with 257, good for sixth in NCAA history. Dykstra's 72 goals currently lead the nation, four ahead of the next-best goal-scorer. The Mendham, N.J. native leaves Lehigh with four major Patriot League Awards in as many seasons - Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year before winning the inaugural Midfield Player of the Year in 2011.
A three-time All-Patriot League honoree, Torcivia led a strong Mountain Hawk defense which allowed only 8.94 goals per game. In the classroom, she has posted a strong 3.28 GPA as a Psychology major. Despite missing the first three games of the season, Torcivia still led the Mountain Hawks in both draw controls (43) and groundballs (41). She also scored a goal at Lafayette and was recognized the following day as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. Torcivia recorded 10 groundballs and eight draw controls in a pair of dominant wins over Temple and Lafayette.
The Coaches Award, which was presented to Healy, is awarded to the individual who made significant contribution to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. The consummate team player, Healy served as a vocal leader of the defense, finishing the season with 22 groundballs and 15 draw controls. She also contributed offensively with five points via a goal and four assists. Healy helped anchor a strong defense, which allowed single-digits in goals on 10 occasions, including six games of six goals or less. The Mountain Hawks allowed only two goals to Bucknell, three to Saint Joseph's and four to Holy Cross, while holding Virginia Tech to its season-low goal total (6).
