BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's lacrosse senior Lauren Dykstra and junior Leigh Ann Torcivia have been named to the IWLCA All Mid-Atlantic Region Team, as announced Thursday night. Dykstra earned her third straight first team honor while Torcivia garnered second team laurels. Dykstra was the only Patriot League player on the first team and is now eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced on Monday, May 30.
The Mountain Hawks tied for the most All-Region honorees in the Patriot League. Colgate placed Colleen Bubnack and Courtney Miller on the Northeast Region Second Team while Lafayette's Ana White and Navy's Jasmine DePompeo were each named Second Team All-Region in the Mid-Atlantic and South, respectively.
In total, 136 Division I student-athletes were recognized across four separate regions - Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South and West/Midwest. Joining Dykstra on the Mid-Atlantic First Team are student-athletes from top schools such as Loyola, Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins, among others.
Lehigh's first repeat regional All-American since Jill Altshuler in the mid-90s, Dykstra has racked in the awards after a stellar senior season and record-breaking career. On Thursday, she was named a WomensLax.com All-American, while also being honored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. Dykstra wrapped up her career with four major Patriot League awards in as many seasons, winning Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and Midfield Player of the Year as a senior.
The Mendham, N.J. native leaves Lehigh with a school and Patriot League record 257 career goals, which stands sixth most in NCAA history. After posting 79, 75 then 62 points in her first three seasons, Dykstra went off her senior year for a career-high 86 points via 72 goals and 14 assists. Her 4.24 goals per game lead the nation while her goal total stands third best. She also stands fifth nationally with her 86 points and second in points per game (5.06).
Torcivia enjoyed a stellar junior campaign, anchoring a strong defense which allowed only 8.94 goals per games, including single-digit goals on 10 occasions and six games of six goals or fewer. The Mountain Hawks allowed only two goals to Bucknell, three to Saint Joseph's and four to Holy Cross, while holding Virginia Tech to its season-low total (6).
Despite missing the first three game of the season, Torcivia still led the Mountain Hawks in both draw controls (43) and groundballs (41). She finished first in the Patriot League in groundballs per game (2.93) and fourth in draw controls per contest (3.07). Torcivia also scored a goal at Lafayette and was recognized the following day as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. She recorded 10 groundballs and eight draw controls in a pair of dominant wins over Temple and Lafayette. Torcivia was later named to the All-Patriot League Team for a third straight season.
