Lehigh men finish fourth, women sixth at PL swim championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams finished up action at the Patriot League Championships Saturday at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium. Three Mountain Hawks made championship finals on the men's side as Lehigh rallied for a fourth place team finish with 380 points while the women finished in sixth place with 230 points.
Lehigh placed two men in the 200 backstroke finals with senior Andrew DiPietro placing fifth with a time of 1:51.27 and sophomore Tyler Lareau finishing eighth. Two others reached the consolation final as senior Billy Dunne took tenth and freshman Matt Chrzanowski finished 15th.
Freshman Chris Hoke was Lehigh's fourth A finalist, placing eighth in the 100 free, with a finals time of 46.13 seconds. Sophomore Frank Cuzzola won the B final to take ninth overall with a time of 46 seconds flat.
The Mountain Hawks also received top-ten finishes from junior Chris Toth and sophomore Alex Aboud. Toth finished eighth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:58.71 while Aboud placed tenth overall in the 200 breast with a time of 2:06.07.
In the final event of the night, Cuzzola, Lareau, DiPietro and Hoke teamed to finish fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:03.46.
On the women's side, Lehigh placed three swimmers in the B final of the 200 fly with freshman Meredith Bayer winning the race in 2:06.15 to finish ninth overall. Junior Alyssa Siano finished 11th while classmate Priscilla Barletta finished 16th.
Sophomores Emily DiDonato and Danielle Caruso reached the B final in the 200 breast, with DiDonato taking tenth with a time of 2:22.05 and Caruso finshing 14th.
Junior Paola Simon placed 11th in the 100 free in 53:01 while senior Kristen Keenan finished 16th. In the 200 back, sophomore Brooke Smalley posted a time of 2:07.00, good for 12th place, while Bayer finished 16th. Freshman Giovanna Patafio finished 12th in the 1650 free with a time of 17:32.00.
Barletta, sophomore Katie Haycraft, Keenan and Simon finshed sixth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:33.08.
Navy's men once again dominated the field, as the Mids won their eighth straight title by more than 450 points over second place Army. Colgate bested Navy by 102 points to capture the women's title.
