BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong season on and off the field, the Lehigh men's soccer team was recognized for its work in the classroom with a 2010-11 NSCAA Academic Award, as announced earlier this month. The Mountain Hawks were one of only 220 men's teams across Division I, II and II honored for posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Lehigh finished with a stellar 3.25 cumulative GPA during the last academic school year, earning the NSCAA team honor for a second straight season. Both Mountain Hawks' soccer programs earned the team award, as one of only 162 schools in the nation with both its men's and women's soccer teams recognized.
The Mountain Hawks have enjoyed a rich tradition of success in the classroom, including 2010-11 when 10 individuals earned a spot on the 2010-11 Academic Honor Roll. Seven were from this past year's squad: Steven Avena, James Meyerkord, Daniel Odenwelder, Cameron Omsberg, Christopher Rabey, Taylor Sulmonetti and Matt Weaver.
Lehigh finished the season with an 8-4-6 record, advancing to its third straight Patriot League Tournament. The year saw the Mountain Hawks tie #22 Cal and defeat Stanford while going on a seven-game unbeaten streak and losing only once in a 12-game stretch bridging the beginning of September through the end of October. Numerous individuals were recognized as well, including Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year (sophomore Ciaran Nugent) and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year (senior Kevin Strunk).
