Mountain Hawks picked fourth in swimming preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the Lehigh swimming and diving team set to hold its annual Brown and White meet on Friday, the Mountain Hawks learned their preseason fate on Wednesday as the Patriot League announced its Swimming and Diving preseason poll. Lehigh's women garnered 53 points, good for fourth place in the poll, which is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

Seventh-year head coach Rob Herb lost several key performers to graduation but returns a wealth of talent from a Mountain Hawks squad that has posted back-to-back winning dual seasons and is coming off their best Patriot League Championship finish (fourth) since 2003. Seniors Kristen Keenan and Allison Montanye anchor the Lehigh squad, while Herb will rely on a deep junior class that includes school record holders Priscilla Barletta and Paola Simon, plus a strong group of sophomores and a promising freshmen class.

The defending Patriot League Champions from Navy were picked to repeat, earning 98 points and 14 first place votes. Bucknell received the other two first place votes and finished second with 81 points, followed by Colgate and then Lehigh, which edged fifth-place Army by one point. American, Lafayette and Holy Cross round out the poll.

Lehigh will hold its annual Brown and White meet Friday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks will open the 2010-11 season on Friday, October 15, when they travel to Providence to take on the Friars at 7 p.m.
