BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior Tiffany Curtis has been named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Curtis won all three of her starts in the pitcher’s circle as Lehigh opened Patriot League play by taking three out of four from Colgate, as the Mountain Hawks closed out their first home stand of the season with a 10-2 record. The award is the first of the season for Curtis and the fifth of her career.
Curtis appeared in three games last week and pitched complete games in all three. Her best outing came in the first game of Lehigh’s doubleheader Saturday against Colgate, as Curtis fired a one-hit shutout, walking two and striking out seven in a 1-0 Mountain Hawks win. The one-hitter was the eighth of her career and the complete-game shutout was her 15th.
Earlier in the week, Curtis matched her season high with eight strikeouts against Princeton. Curtis finished the week with a 3-0 record and a 2.00 earned run average. The senior right hander struck out 20 batters in 21 innings and walked just six.
For the season, Curtis owns an 11-4 record. Her 11 victories are tops in the Patriot League. The Newbury Park, California native went 7-1 on Lehigh’s recent 12-game home stand and lowered her ERA to 3.98.
The Mountain Hawks (17-9 overall, 3-1 Patriot League) will step away from Patriot League play on Tuesday when they travel to Rider for a doubleheader. The Broncs are 8-15 overall and opened MAAC play by sweeping a doubleheader from St. Peter’s on Saturday. First pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m. from Lawrenceville, N.J.
