BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After getting only one day off, the Lehigh baseball team will get right back on the road as it travels to Baltimore, Md., to face the Coppin State Eagles in a three-game series this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will look to keep their momentum rolling after they defeated Sacred Heart 8-5 in their final game in Florida on Wednesday. The Brown and White and the Eagles will kick things off on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. from Joe Cannon Stadium and conclude the series with two games on Saturday.
Lehigh improved to 2-7 on the season with its win against the Pioneers on Wednesday. Senior Ken Longernecker pitched 4.1 scoreless innings and junior Brendan Pifer hit the go-ahead solo home run as the Mountain Hawks came out victorious.
Junior Billy Goldman continues to lead the Brown and White offensively as he is batting .405 for the season. His classmate Kevin Mihalik leads the team in RBIs (eight) and slugging percentage (.533). Longernecker is 2-0 this season in 11.2 innings and has a 3.86 earned run average.
The Mountain Hawks and Coppin State have faced each other five times in history, with Lehigh winning all five of the games. Their most recent meeting was in 2008 in Baltimore where the Brown and White came out on top 14-1.
The Eagles are coming off two straight victories over Virginia State this past weekend to put an end to their 45-game losing streak. Coppin State is off to a 2-9 start this season and is led by senior Harry Williams who is batting .432 and has 10 RBIs.
