BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team wraps up the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Bucknell on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. With a win and Colgate loss or tie, the playoff-bound Mountain Hawks would clinch the Patriot League Regular Season Title and the right to host next weekend's league tournament for the first time since 2006.
Seniors James Graf, Jonathan Nydell and Matt Thaeder will be honored at halftime as they play their final seasons in the Brown and White.
Last Sunday's 1-0 overtime win at Army clinched Lehigh's second straight Patriot League Tournament berth. The victory also kept the Mountain Hawks' hopes alive for home field in the tournament. Colgate and American play at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Should the Raiders lose or tie, it would set up a scenario where a Lehigh win would clinch first place.
Meanwhile, Bucknell comes in needing a win or tie for a chance at the Patriot League Tournament. A point back of Navy for the fourth and final playoff spot, the Midshipmen host Lafayette on Saturday evening as well.
The roles are reversed from last year when Lehigh clinched a tournament berth in the regular season finale at Bucknell behind Adam Welch's golden goal in the second overtime.
Lehigh has been on fire ever since its league opening loss at Colgate. The squad is a perfect 4-0-1 in its last five Patriot League games, including wins over Lafayette, Holy Cross, American and Army, along with a tie at Navy.
The Mountain Hawks remain in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings, coming in at No. 6 in the most recent poll released on Tuesday.
A competitive all-time series sees the Mountain Hawks with a slim 23-22-8 edge. They're also 6-3-1 in their last 10 home games against the Bison.
Bucknell enters Saturday with a 7-8-1 overall record, 2-2-2 in league play. Brendan Burgdorf leads the offense with six goals and 14 total points while Tommy McCabe is tied for the team lead in points, along with a team best eight assists. Josh Plump has also enjoyed a strong season with nine points via four goals and an assist. Marc Hartmann and Tommy Caso have split time in goal, each starting eight games; Hartmann owns a 1.41 GAA and Caso's is 1.86.
Live video and statistics will be available through Lehighsports.com.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks look ahead to the Patriot League Tournament at a site to-be determined. The league semifinals are next Friday (Nov. 12) and championship game is on Sunday (Nov. 14).
