Nydell named to Patriot League All-Academic Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior goalkeeper Jonathan Nydell has been named to the first ever Patriot League All-Academic Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday. The senior from Washington, D.C. has impressed on the field and off, where he owns a strong 3.36 GPA as an Engineering Physics major and Spanish minor.
American's Matt Makowski was also chosen as the Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. The All-Academic Team is to have 11 student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League First Team, however there are 12 this year because of ties in the voting. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Nydell has started 54 of Lehigh's 69 games over his four-year career and 49 of 52 over the past three seasons. He has a .792 save percentage and 0.96 GAA this season, marking the third time in his career it's stood at or below one. He has won three Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week laurels in his career as well.
In the classroom, Nydell is a member of the Dean's List while also being named to the Lehigh and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on numerous occasions.
The Mountain Hawks look ahead to Friday's Patriot League Semifinal matchup against No. 3 American. Lehigh enters as the No. 2 seed following a 4-2-1 record in league play. The winner will face either Colgate or Bucknell in the Patriot League Championship Game on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Mountain Hawks are looking to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006.
