Lehigh climbs to No. 6 in Mid-Atlantic Region

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a big win over rival Lafayette on Saturday, the Lehigh men's soccer team jumped up to No. 6 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings. Sophomore Austin Decker provided the offensive spark against the Leopards, scoring in the 76th minute to lift Lehigh to its first Patriot League victory of the year. The Mountain Hawks (4-4-1) were last ranked in the region on September 21 when they were also slotted at No. 6. Lehigh opened the season at No. 5 on September 7 and has been ranked in the NSCAA Regional poll in four of the five weeks this season.
Five of the top 10 teams in this week's poll represent the Patriot League. Colgate (5-1-3) is ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, while American (5-4-0) is No. 3. Lehigh's opponent on Saturday, Navy (6-2-0) currently occupies the fourth spot, while Lafayette (5-3-2) is seventh.
Three of Lehigh's four wins have come at home this season; the Mountain Hawks have outscored opponents by a 7-3 margin in five home contests so far. Senior keeper Jonathan Nydell owns four shutouts this year and boasts a 0.98 goals against average.
Lehigh is currently tied for third in the Patriot League standings with three points. Colgate and American top the table with six points with five league matches remaining. The Mountain Hawks will head to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday to face Navy, a team with which they are tied in the standings, at 7 p.m.
