Nydell garners Goalkeeper of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior keeper Jonathan Nydell was named the Patriot League BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Nydell posted a four-save shutout at Navy on Saturday and extended his shutout streak to 256 consecutive minutes overall. Nydell is tied for the Patriot League lead with five shutouts this season.
The Washington, D.C. native has played in 937 of a possible 940 minutes in goal for Lehigh, posting a 0.86 goals against average. Nydell also owns a .812 save percentage, good for the third-highest mark in the league, and has stopped 39 shots overall.
As a team, Lehigh has conceded only nine goals in 10 matches, which is the third-fewest total in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks' defense has been particularly stingy at home, allowing only three goals in five matches. The Mountain Hawks currently rank 33rd out of 201 Division-I teams in shutout percentage, holding teams scoreless in 50% of their matches.
Nydell is the third Mountain Hawk to win a men's soccer weekly award this season as senior James Graf and junior Kevin Strunk were honored with BRINE Defensive Player of the Week awards on September 21 and October 5, respectively. Nydell was previously named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on October 26, 2009.Nydell and the Lehigh defense will have their hands full on Tuesday when No. 6 Maryland visits the Ulrich Sports Complex at 7 p.m. The Terrapins average 2.8 goals per game, good for the seventh-highest clip in the nation. Maryland put up seven goals in its last game against ACC-foe Virginia Tech and has defeated two ranked teams this season in No. 2 Connecticut and No. 9 Duke.
