Stony Brook women prove too strong for Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its first action in over a week, Lehigh fell to Stony Brook by a 7-0 score Friday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center. Junior Stacey Reich and senior Ruthie Furman picked up Lehigh’s lone win of the day with a victory at No. 3 doubles, but the visiting Seawolves won the top two doubles flights and swept six singles matches to earn the victory. The Mountain Hawks are now 3-6 on the season.
Furman and Reich earned an 8-6 victory over Gayatri Krishnan and Erica Federgreen in the match at No. 3 doubles. Lehigh head coach juggled his lineup, moving his team of junior Julie Arthofer and freshman Liz Piscitelli up to first doubles, while seniors Allie Schwartz and Ariela Cohen played at No. 2. Both Lehigh teams dropped their matches by 8-3 scores.
In singles play, Shook moved Arthofer up to No. 2 singles where she fell 6-0, 6-3 to Prerana Appineni. Cohen fell 6-1, 6-2 to Krishnan at No. 3 singles, as Stony Brook took the first five singles flights in straight sets.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the court on Sunday when they welcome Delaware to the Lewis Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. match.
