Mountain Hawks blanked by Delaware, 7-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh suffered its second straight loss as the Mountain Hawks fell 7-0 to Delaware Sunday afternoon inside the Lewis Tennis Center. For the second straight match Lehigh’s lone win came from senior Ruthie Furman and junior Stacey Reich at No. 3 doubles, but the visiting Fightin’ Blue Hens cruised to wins in the top two doubles flights and added six singles victories in their spring season opener. Lehigh falls to 3-7 with the loss.
After Delaware clinched the doubles point, Furman and Reich picked up an 8-5 win over Megan Doran and Amanda Campbell for Lehigh’s only win of the day.
In singles play, the Mountain Hawks made things interesting as senior Ariela Cohen took the first set versus Ivana Petrich at No. 3 singles before falling 3-6, 7-6, 6-0. Reich also picked up a set, taking the second versus Campbell at No. 5 singles before losing in a ten point tiebreak. Senior Allie Schwartz also batted hard at No. 1 singles before bowing 7-5, 7-6 to Elena Berry.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the courts on Thursday when they travel Penn State. First serves are set for 4 p.m.
