Carmola named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its preseason poll on Thursday, and Lehigh was picked to finish fourth. The Mountain Hawks received 40 points, as voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors. The league also voted on a Preseason Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year for the first time, and Lehigh sophomore Inneke Carmola was chosen as the inaugural Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Carmola led the Mountain Hawks with 52 points, coming on 46 goals and six assists. She ranked sixth in the league in total points and first in game-winning goals with five.

American, led by Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Caitlin Bell, was selected first in the poll, with 64 points and six first place votes. Holy Cross was not far behind the Eagles, receiving 62 points and six first place votes. Colgate was selected third, just ahead of Lehigh, with 45 points and two first place votes. Bucknell and Navy were tied for fifth with 30 points a piece, and Lafayette was selected seventh with 23 points.

The Mountain Hawks open their season on Saturday, when they play host to Mount St. Mary’s. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and can be seen live on Lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
