Davidson proves too much for Lehigh

Lake Buena Vista, FL – Sophomore Emily Studdiford scored twice, and Lehigh’s goalie tandem of Vanessa Abbott and Valerie Jackson combined to make 22 saves, but it wasn’t enough to lift Lehigh over Davidson. The Wildcats defeated the Mountain Hawks by a 10-3 score at the Walt Disney World Resort complex on Monday afternoon. Both teams are now 2-1 on the season.
Davidson came out strong, and built a 6-1 lead in the first half, despite 12 saves from Lehigh goalie Vanessa Abbott. Davidson peppered the Lehigh goalies all afternoon, out-shooting the Mountain Hawks 30-10. Davidson keeper Becca Nussbaum played all sixty minutes, recording four saves. Val Jackson played the second half in net for Lehigh, allowing four goals while recording ten saves.
Emily Studdiford scored the lone Mountain Hawk goal of the half, and added one in the second. Senior Kristin Strohm scored Lehigh’s other goal. The Wildcats were led by three goals from Sarah Otto on the afternoon.
"We gave a lackluster performance out there today," said Lehigh coach Jackie Keeley following the loss. "We were all disappointed in our effort, but now we’ve got to turn it around and get ready for Wednesday."
The Mountain Hawks are back in action on Wednesday afternoon, when Lehigh takes on Sacred Heart. That contest is scheduled to get underway at noon in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
