Early goals too much to overcome for Lehigh

Forks Twp., PA--- Lafayette scored six straight to open the game as Lehigh fell to the Leopards, 18-6, Tuesday afternoon. It wasn’t until freshman Emily Studdiford’s goal at 23:50 of the first half that put the Mountain Hawks on the board. Lehigh then fell further in a deficit as Lafayette (10-3, 4-0 Patriot) scored three more times to take a nine-goal lead.
Lehigh would tally three more times before the half on two goals by Ella Studdiford and a score by Meredith Batcha to make it 10-5 at the break.
The Mountain Hawks would have no answer for the Lafayette offense as the Leopards netted two quick goals to up their lead to 12-5. Batcha added her second goal from an assist by junior Kristin Strohm but it would be the last time Lehigh would find the back of the net. Lafayette rallied off six straight unanswered goals to send Lehigh to its ninth straight defeat.
Lafayette’s Jodi Spector scored a game-high five goals and teammate Stephanie Tinney added four scores.
Goalie Vanessa Abbott made 10 saves and faced 31 shots for Lehigh (1-11, 0-4 Patriot).
Lehigh tries to play the role of spoiler as they host Bucknell in a Patriot League game on Saturday April 21st at 1 p.m. The Bison are vying for a playoff spot to join the Leopards, Holy Cross, and Colgate in the League championship tournament.
