Lehigh battles; falls short

Worcester, MA – Holy Cross sophomore Heather Bryce scored a career high seven goals and added two assists, including the game-winner, as the Crusaders defeated Lehigh 15-9, in a Patriot League tilt on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center Astroturf Field. The Mountain Hawks fell to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the Patriot League while Holy Cross improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the league.
      The Mountain Hawks got on the board first on a goal by freshman Emily Studdiford. After Holy Cross answered with two goals of their own, Lehigh evened the score at two on Studdiford’s second goal of the game. She finished with a team-leading five points on three goals and two assists. The Crusaders scored the next two goals to take a 4-2 lead with 14:58 to play in the opening stanza before the Mountain Hawks answered with a three goal run of their own to take a 5-4 lead with 4:27 to play. Bryce scored with 3:53 left to send the teams to the break tied at five.
      The two teams traded goals over the first ten minutes of the second half. Holy Cross scored the next two as freshman Katie Britt scored one and assisted on the other. Lehigh responded with two goals of their own as Studdiford matched Britt with a goal and an assist. The Crusaders then took over the game, scoring the next six goals to take a commanding 14-8 lead with just 2:25 remaining. Bryce tallied three goals and one assist over the run. The two teams traded goals over the final 2:05 to reach the final of 15-9.
      The Mountain Hawks return to action on Tuesday when they take on archrival Lafayette in a game scheduled for 4:00.
