Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh guard Mary Frances Hynoski has been recognized by the Patriot League as its Player of the Week for the first time this season on February 14. The senior posted yet another impressive week on the hardwood in helping her squad to two more Patriot League wins – including a victory over previously unbeaten Holy Cross.
In two games last week, Hynoski averaged 13 points per contest on 11-of-19 shooting (58%). The senior averaged 9.5 rebounds per contest. She dished out 4.5 assists and registered three steals per contest, while posting a 3.00 assist-to-turnover ratio. In Sunday’s Patriot League win over Holy Cross, Hynoski registered her league-leading sixth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points while yanking down ten rebounds. The Mountain Hawks are now 8-0 in games this season in which Hynoski grabs at least ten rebounds. “Mary has been getting better and better as the season has gone on,” said Lehigh head coach Sue Troyan. “Her numbers don’t always warrant the attention that some others get, but she has always done the little things to help us win games.” Hynoski leads the league in rebounds per game against league opposition, with 9.5 caroms per contest. She also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (behind teammate Jenny Callan), shooting at a 56.7% clip from the floor on the season. Hynoski’s Patriot League Player of the Week award is the sixth such honor for Lehigh this season. Senior forward Jessica DePalo has won the award twice, and sophomore guard Sara Ellis has captured the honor three times. The weekly award is voted on by members of the media as well as the league’s eight sports information directors. Lehigh (17-7 overall, 9-2 Patriot League) has already won more games this year than any other under tenth year head coach Sue Troyan. The Mountain Hawks have also matched a school record for league wins with nine. With Sunday’s win over the Crusaders, the Mountain Hawks have clinched a top two seed and home court advantage for at least the first two rounds of the upcoming Patriot League postseason tournament Lehigh returns to the hardwood on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks visit Navy.
