Lehigh takes a step back from league play as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Penn Quakers to Stabler Arena Tuesday night. The Mountain Hawks are off to their best start ever under head coach Sue Troyan, and are tied atop the Patriot League standings with a 3-0 mark in league play. Senior Mary Frances Hynoski leads the Patriot League in rebounding, and she has posted an average of 13.3 boards per contest over the last three. With an 11-4 record, the Mountain Hawks are off to the best start of any Lehigh team in the Sue Troyan era. This year’s squad is off to the best start since the 1985-86 season, when the program began that season with a 15-3 mark. That season’s team won the East Coast Conference championship. Meanwhile, Penn is off to a 6-6 start under first year head coach Patrick Knapp. The Quakers have played an extremely grueling schedule to this point, in preparation for Ivy League play which begins Friday night. Last time out, Penn rolled to a 35-point win over Penn leads the all-time series between the two schools, 14 games to 11. Last time the two teams met at Stabler, the Quakers earned a 79-69 victory over Lehigh in January, 2003. The last Mountain Hawks’ win came in 1998, as Lehigh topped Penn 71-62. Overall, the Quakers have won four in a row in the series.
