Five crews compete at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – Lehigh competed at the 2009 Navy Day Regatta on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks entered five crews, including the women’s varsity 8 and second varsity 8 and the men’s varsity 8, second varsity 8 and freshmen/novice 8. The women’s second varsity 8 placed seventh, the women's varsity 8 posted an eighth place finish in its race, and the men’s second varsity 8 crossed in sixth place.
The women’s varsity 8 crew finished in its race in a time of 14:42.83 which was good for eighth out of 20 entries and only four seconds behind seventh place Delaware. Penn won the race in 13:55.04. In the women’s 2V race the Mountain Hawks finished in seventh place with a time of 15:40.67 with Navy taking first place in the 14-boat race.
The men’s varsity 8 crossed in a time of 13:02.89 which placed the Brown and White in 15th place out of 26 crews. Navy won the event with a time of 12:11.96 with Penn AC in second place. The men’s 2V finished in sixth place with a time of 13:41.39 in its race, with Navy crossing first with a time of 12:55.64. There were 11 entries in the men’s 2V race. The Mountain Hawks also entered a crew in the freshmen/novice 8 which finished in 14:16.82. That put Lehigh in 13th place out of 20 entries.
Lehigh returns to action next weekend when the Mountain Hawks travel to New England to compete in the Head of the Charles – one of the world’s largest and most prestigious regattas.
