Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh’s men’s and women’s tennis squad held its annual post season banquet on Tuesday at Bucca di Beppo Restaurant in Allentown. The banquet is sponsored by the Athletic Partnership and serves as a time for the team’s to reflect on the season, hand out awards, and announce the team captains for the following year. Three awards were handed out for both the men’s and women’s squad. On the men’s side, Ty Esler was honored as the team’s Athlete of the Year. Esler posted a 5-10 season record in singles competition and went 8-6 in doubles matches. Esler was also tops on the team in league wins with three. Randall Smalley was honored with the Coaches Award. Smalley came to Lehigh looking for a chance to successfully compete at the Division I level and did just that; going 7-9 in singles play and 9-4 in doubles matches. The Final men’s award was the Scholar Athlete of the Year award. This year’s winner was Craig Ditman. Ditman was not only a leader in the classroom; he also was a top competitor on the court. This past season Ditman was 6-9 in singles play, while going 8-6 in doubles matches. The men’s team also selected their team captain for next season. Ty Esler was voted upon by his peers to lead next year’s squad. On the women’s side, the same three awards were handed out, and two 2003-04 captains were selected. Kristen Nowicki was named the team’s Athlete of the Year based on her nearly perfect first season at Lehigh. Nowicki managed a 16-1 record in singles competition, falling only to Army’s top player, while going 9-7 in doubles matches. The Coaches Award went to Andrea Scott. Scott showed heart and determination all season en route to her 9-9 singles record. Scott was a key component to Lehigh’s push towards the post season. The team’s Scholar Athlete of the Year award went to Alina Kors. Kors posted a GPA well above 3.0, while posting a win-loss record of 5-6 in singles play and 6-6 in doubles matches. The women also selected team captains, and grabbing this year’s honor was a duo of deserving student-athletes. Kristen Nowicki and Alina Kors were chosen by their teammates to lead next season’s squad. For more information, contact
