BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior
Adam Williamson has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week following his game-winning goal in Lehigh’s upset of previously unbeaten No. 20 Binghamton on Saturday evening.
The game-winner was the seventh for Williamson in his career and second this season.
Williamson and Lehigh (3-1) made more headlines on Monday, when the Mountain Hawks debuted in the College Soccer News National Poll at number-30.
It is Lehigh’s first appearance in the poll since mid-October of 2003.
Williamson has had an incredible start to the season for Lehigh, tying for the team lead in goals with three, while leading the Brown and White in assists with two, and in points with nine. Coincidentally, the New Jersey native scored the game-winning goal for the Mountain Hawks the last time they defeated a top-25 team, on September 12, 2003 versus No. 25 Penn. Williamson netted this game-winner on a free kick that sailed over the goalie’s head and found its way into the back of the net. This marks the second straight season Williamson has been named to the CSN National Team of the Week after receiving the honor as a junior following game-winning goals in back-to-back games midway through the 2004 season.
Lehigh is currently ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, with the new poll scheduled for release on Tuesday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks will be back in action this Friday evening, when they begin Patriot League play versus the Midshipmen of Navy at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for approximately 7:30. Lehigh will then travel to Virginia on Sunday afternoon to take on a strong Richmond team out of the Atlantic-10 conference. That match is slated for a 1:00 start.
