Three former Lehigh soccer standouts have signed professional contracts to play with two D3 professional teams, as
Steve Fisher ’04, Evan Bruno ’03 and Colin Marshall ’02 have all begun their professional careers.
Fisher has signed with the expansion Harrisburg City Islanders, who play in the PSL, and the product of
Hershey High School put his own personal stamp on the record books in the fifth minute of the team’s season opening win on Saturday, taking a pass from a teammate, turning, and corking a right-footed drive over the opponent’s goalie. The goal will go down as the first in Islanders history. Fisher was named to the Patriot League’s First-Team this past season as he led the Mountain Hawks in goals with 10 and points with 20. Fisher leaves Lehigh with eight career game-winning goals, including two in his senior campaign.
Bruno and Marshall have both signed with the Long Island Roughriders, who play in the USL Pro Select League and are coming off of a season in 2003 that saw them finish with a record of 9-2-3, good for second place. Bruno left Lehigh as the third leading goal scorer in school history with 40, and he was also an All-American selection in 2001, as well as a two-time All-Region selection and a three-time All-Patriot League selection. Bruno is tied for first all-time at Lehigh with 73 career games played and was the Offensive Player of the Year in the Patriot League in both 2000 and 2002.
Marshall will join Bruno on the Roughriders, and he too brings impressive credentials to the team. Marshall was an All-Patriot League First-Team selection in 2000 and he left Lehigh with eight career goals, 17 assists and 33 points. Marshall was a captain in his senior season at Lehigh and was highly regarded as one of the best possession players on the team.
The Islanders and Fisher will be back in action on Friday April 30, when the team travels to play the Charlotte Eagles. Bruno and Marshall begin their season this Saturday, April 24, when the team plays host to the Westchester Flames. That game is to be played at the Michael Athletic Complex in Uniondale, Long Island.
