Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (10-4-2, 4-1-1 Patriot League) dropped 10 places to No. 24 in the latest NSCAA men’s soccer rankings, released Monday. The ranking comes just one week after the Mountain Hawks hit an all-time high at No. 14 last week. Lehigh also dropped one spot to No. 2 in the regional rankings.
In the only action for the Lehigh squad last week, the Mountain Hawks tied Patriot League foe American 1-1 on Saturday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Senior Dan Perciballi scored Lehigh’s only goal of the game, while sophomore Kyle Hartman picked up the assist. American’s goal broke a string of 389:19 in which the Mountain Hawks did not allow a goal. The tie also extended Lehigh’s school record unbeaten streak to nine games. Over the course of the streak, the Mountain Hawks’ record is 8-0-1. The Eagles currently sit at No. 5 in the South Atlantic Region.
In the national poll, Wake Forest (12-0-4) leapfrogged from No. 3 to No. 1, as last week’s top ranked team from St. John’s (11-1-5) fell to No. 2. Regionally, Pennsylvania (10-2) traded places with Lehigh and moved into the No. 1 spot, despite only beating Brown (5-6-4) 1-0. Lehigh defeated Penn earlier this season, 1-0 in double overtime.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Tuesday, when they host the Middle-Atlantic Region’s No. 5 team, Penn State. Game time is set for 7:00 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast Tuesday evening at 10:00 p.m. by Service Electric Cable TV, and will also be broadcast live on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
