Durham, NC – Steve Fisher scored his second goal of the season at the 83:05 mark to lift the Mountain Hawks (7-4-1, 2-1 Patriot League) past No. 18 Duke (6-3-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast) by a final of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The senior co-captains got the Brown & White the lead early. All-American Evan Bruno crossed the ball and Dan Perciballi launched a shot past Duke’s Justin Trowbridge at the 10:26 mark. The goal was Perciballi’s third of the season. Bruno also assisted on Fisher’s game winner to give the senior forward a team-best six helpers this season.
The Lehigh defense saw its scoreless streak snapped at 363:43, when the Blue Devils knotted the score at 1-1. It would be Daniel MacIntosh, with an assist from Jordan Cila, who would get a Lehigh foe onto the scoreboard for the first time since Drexel scored a goal on September 25th.
Ryan Grzeszczak played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves to pick up the victory. Jason Trowbridge and the stingy Duke defense allowed Lehigh only six shots. Trowbridge stopped two, but Perciballi and Fisher were able to sneak two of those shots into the back of the net.
"This was a great win for the program and the university," head coach Dean Koski said. "I couldn’t be more pleased with this performance, especially after playing at Army Friday. It says a lot about the character of these guys to be able to come back with this effort. Our seniors, Bruno, Perciballi, and Grzeszczak raised their play and brought us the win."
The win was Lehigh’s fifth in row on the season. The streak is the Mountain Hawks longest such streak since they beat seven straight opponents from September 27th- October 31st of last season.
"We played a great game today," Grzeszczak observed. "We played good, sound defense and our offense managed to score a couple of goals."
The Brown & White will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Philadelphia for a 3:00 game on Wednesday against Penn.
