Men's soccer defeats St. John's in final scrimmage

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On a rainy Friday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, the men’s soccer team defeated St. John’s (N.Y.) 1-0 in their final tune-up before the regular season.
Senior defender Adam Welch headed in a perfectly placed ball from sophomore Neal Melchionni off a corner kick in the 49th minute to give the Mountain Hawks their only tally of the night. Lehigh played a solid game defensively and was able to hold the dangerous St. John’s attack to only a few chances.
Head coach Dean Koski was pleased with his team's overall performance versus the Red Storm who enter the season ranked No. 5 in Division I by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
“I thought we played pretty well against a very good team,” Koski said. “Our objective was to neutralize their attack and we met that objective.”
The men’s soccer regular season will officially begin at home on September 1, at 7 p.m. against Stanford. Live video of the match will be available on Lehighsports.com.
