BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior forward Jim Taranto was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the Patriot League on Monday. Taranto helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a win and a draw in two road games over the weekend.
Lehigh spoiled Princeton’s home opener with a 2-1 win at the newly-opened Roberts Stadium on Friday, and the Mountain Hawks came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Fordham on Sunday.
Taranto made the offense tick with his scoring and ball distribution in the two games, leading the team with six points on two goals and two assists. Both of Taranto’s goals opened up the scoring for the Mountain Hawks.
Taranto’s assists may have been the most important for Lehigh on its road trip. The first assist to Kyle Evans gave Lehigh a 2-0 cushion, which it would need to hold off the charging Tigers down the stretch. The second assist gave Kyle Evans a look at the net for the game-tying goal against Fordham.
The Mountain Hawks moved to 3-0-1 on the season, and will return to action on September 12 with a trip to South Carolina. Lehigh will be a participant in the adidas Gamecock Classic, where it will face off with South Carolina and Presbyterian.
