Mountain Hawks set for Patriot League playoffs

Lehigh makes its third consecutive appearance in the Patriot League baseball tournament for the first time in school history on Saturday, when Lehigh opens the 2004 playoffs in an elimination game against Lafayette at Army. The Mountain Hawks are looking to capture the school’s first-ever league tournament title and subsequent postseason berth. Lehigh will take on rival Lafayette in the opening round game, with the winner advancing to take on host and top-seeded Army in a best-of-three series. The Mountain Hawks are 3-2 against the Leopards so far this season, and 1-3 against Army.

Last week, Lehigh swept the Leopards in a doubleheader to qualify for the league’s final playoff spot. The last two times these rivals squared off in a Patriot League tournament game, the Mountain Hawks eliminated Lafayette with a 12-6 triumph at Navy in 2002.

The 2004 Patriot League tournament gets underway at Army’s Doubleday Field at 12:06 on Saturday afternoon. All Lehigh games will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site at lehighsports.com.
