Lehigh squares off with in a doubleheader against Binghamton in the Mountain Hawks’ 2003 home opener at Goodman Field on Saturday. Entering play this weekend, the Mountain Hawks are off to a 6-5 start in 2003, while the Bearcats head to Bethlehem with a record of 3-10-1.
Lehigh is one of a number of schools in the northeast that has had a slew of games postponed because of poor weather. The Mountain Hawks have been led on the mound by strong pitching from Jack Muscalus and Jack Lyons. Muscalus is off to a 2-0 start with a miniscule 0.78 ERA. Lyons meanwhile is also 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA and a complete game.
At the plate, shortstop Eric Hoffman paces Lehigh with a .472 batting average and ten runs scored. Jesse Novalis enters the weekend hitting at a .286 clip with two homers and ten runs scored as well.
Binghamton looks to avenge last season’s series, when the Mountain Hawks won all four games. The Bearcats are hitting only .221 as a team in the early going, despite T.J. Kowalchuk hitting at a .326 clip with five doubles.
First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
