Pietrak hits game winning homer

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh hung on for a 6-5 win over Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon on the Goodman Campus. The Mountain Hawks used 13 hits and were perfect in the field in picking up their 20th win of the season, and win number 1,000 in the history of the program. Lehigh is now 20-13-1 overall while Delaware State fell to 28-13 overall. The Lehigh victory snapped a 12-game Hornets winning streak, with DSU's last loss coming to Lehigh on March 21.
Lehigh broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with three runs, two on a homer by Jesse Novalis and one on a solo shot by Jeff Pietrak. Sophomore Eric Hoffman and freshman Forrest Doane combined for seven of Lehigh’s 13 hits as Hoffman was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three singles and a double. Hoffman drove in a run and scored a run. Doane went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Jeremy Mack turned in a 2-for-4 performance for the Mountain Hawks.
Matt Mezzancello picked up the win for Lehigh in relief of Adam Marr. Mezzancello pitched one and two thirds innings allowing no hits or walks. Marr had a solid outing scattering seven hits and allowing just three runs in five and third innings. Dave Cerminaro picked up his first save of the season pitching the ninth and allowing only a walk.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Marist for a non-league contest set to begin at 3:00.
