BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s soccer team will be back on the pitch Tuesday night after losing a close game with its archrival Lafayette 1-0 on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks will be traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Pennsylvania Quakers in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
After earning its first shutout of the season last Tuesday night against Fairleigh Dickinson, Lehigh took on its archrival Lafayette in its second Patriot League game Saturday. After the two teams battled for 90 minutes neither team could find the back of the net. Six minutes into the first overtime the Leopards ended the game despite being outshot 13-4 by the Mountain Hawks.
“Our most important thing is that we recover from the loss on Saturday,” head coach Dean Koski said. “I was not disappointed in the way we played and if we continue to compete we will be fine.”
Lehigh (5-3-2) took down the Quakers last season 2-1, but Penn leads the all-time series 33-17-4. The Mountain Hawks have gotten strong play from freshman Austin Decker who currently leads the team in goals (4) and is tied for the lead in points (8). The forward has been honored twice as the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week this season. Senior Adam Welch leads the Mountain Hawks’ back line with two goals and he is tied with Decker in points with eight.
Penn (3-3-2) comes into Tuesday night’s matchup losing two of its last three. Senior Alex Takakuwa leads the Quakers with four goals and he is tied with sophomore Christian Barreiro for the team lead in points (8).
