BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The men’s soccer team will finish up its non-conference play Tuesday night when it welcomes in NJIT to the Ulrich Sports Complex at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will look to get back in the win column after losing three of their last five games. Lehigh holds a 1-2 league record and an overall record of 5-5-2.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off another tough loss as they fell to Navy 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night. Senior defender Adam Welch continued his great season Saturday scoring his third goal, but Navy responded right back scoring the game-tying goal less than 10 minutes later. Lehigh outshot the Midshipmen 20-10, but Navy recorded three of its shots in overtime, one of which was the game-winner. Heading into the season Welch had only one career goal and he currently leads the Mountain Hawks with 10 points.
NJIT (4-8) is currently on a two-game win streak. They have two consecutive shutouts after defeating Long Island 1-0 last Sunday and Longwood 1-0 this past Saturday. The Highlanders will be looking to win their first road game of the season (0-5) when they travel to Bethlehem Tuesday night. NJIT is led by Rahim Stennett who currently leads the team with five goals and 11 points this season.
This will mark the first ever meeting between the two schools. Earlier in the season NJIT lost a 2-1 decision to Lehigh’s archrival Lafayette. Lehigh is 3-1 all-time against other teams from the Atlantic Soccer Conference.
