Lehigh finishes first day at Winthrop Invite

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lehigh completed its first day of competition at the Winthrop Invitational on Friday in Rock Hill, S.C.  Although there were no team scores at the meet, the Mountain Hawks have several athletes in position for first place finishes in final round action tomorrow.  Through five events of the men’s decathlon E.J. Schuck had a first place finish, two second place finishes and two third places finishes, placing him among the leaders.  Through three events of the women’s heptathlon both Catherine Bigelow and Kathryn McLaughlin posted solid finishes in their events and are in position to take the top spot tomorrow.

 

Scott Robinson just missed qualifying for the finals of the 110 meter hurdles, coming in ninth with a time of 15.03 seconds.  His time was only 0.08 seconds off the qualifying mark.  In the men’s 400 meter dash Kyle Manning posted a 16th place finish in the preliminaries with a time of 50.04 seconds.

 

On the women’s side, Sarah Serwo came in 10th in the preliminaries of the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 59.41 seconds.  Lindsey Corbetta was only 0.13 seconds off the qualifying mark in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.82 seconds.

 

The teams resume competition tomorrow morning from Winthrop, with the first events of the day expected to get underway at 9 a.m.
