All crews see action at Lehigh River Regatta

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lehigh hosted the first-ever Lehigh River Regatta on Saturday on the Lehigh River versus Loyola (Md.) and Franklin and Marshall. The Regatta offered all Mountain Hawk rowers, including novice and walk-ons, their first opportunity to race versus crews from other schools. Lehigh won four of the six events, including all three women’s races. Lehigh Director of Rowing Liz Meltzer was pleased with how the day unfolded. “This was a great opportunity to host an event on our own river and face live competition,” Meltzer commented. “To allow all of our rowers a chance to race and prepare for the upcoming Navy Day Regatta was exactly what we were looking to get out of this day.”
In the women’s freshman/novice 4+ race, Lehigh A took first place with a time of 19:20, while Lehigh B crossed in third place. Lehigh’s Open Weights won the women’s varsity 4+ race in 18:31, defeating the Lehigh Lightweights and Loyola, while in the Women’s 8+ race, Lehigh One crossed in 17:01 besting Lehigh Two, which finished second in a time of 17:47. Lehigh Three finished fourth in the Women’s 8+ with a time of 18:17.
On the men’s side, Lehigh won the Freshman/Novice 8+ race beating Franklin and Marshall by nearly two full minutes, while in the V4+ race, Lehigh placed second with a time of 16:49. In the men’s 8+ race, the Mountain Hawks One V boat finished third and the Two V boat crossed in fourth place.
Lehigh is back in action on Saturday, October 11 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to compete at the Navy Day Regatta. The first race is scheduled for 10:00 AM.
