“Win.”
With three games remaining on the Patriot League schedule, the head coach of the Mountain Hawks doesn’t have time to be too profound. Four teams make the league tournament at the end of the season, and Koski’s team sits uncomfortably in a tie for fifth place heading into the weekend.
“A tie or a loss will really set us back,” Koski said. “So getting three points is real important for us.”
Lehigh (6-5-3, 1-1-2) has earned five points in league play, and the Mountain Hawks can earn a maximum of 14 points by the end of the season. Koski said he believes it will take at least 11 points to get into the tournament, which means Lehigh needs to win two of its final three games.
“I think we have to play the way we have the last several games,” Koski said. “We need to be really disciplined defensively and respect Army’s ability to attack.”
The Mountain Hawks are hoping to ride the momentum from their mid-week victory over
Gazda’s two first-half goals propelled Lehigh to the early lead over the Nittany Lions, and the Mountain Hawks held on for the 2-1 victory. The scores put Gazda in the team lead for goals on the season with his fifth and sixth tallies of 2008.
In Army (2-10-0, 0-3-0), the Mountain Hawks will be playing against the team with the worst record in the Patriot League. However, the Black Knights have been anything but an easy win for most of the teams on their schedule.
“Our message to the guys is to not look at their record,” Koski said. “They’ve been in every game they’ve played. They generate offense and they don’t give up a lot of goals. The only thing they haven’t been getting is results.”
