Lehigh (5-5-3, 1-1-2) has fared well in these mid-week contests, coming away with an upset victory over No. 19 Penn and carrying a lead into the final minutes at No. 6 Maryland before ultimately falling in overtime. However, Lehigh head coach Dean Koski made it clear his top priority is keeping his players fresh for Patriot League play.
“We really need to recover,” Koski said. “I think our guys are banged up, and we, as coaches, need to be smart with how we manage their minutes.”
With just three league matches left, the Mountain Hawks will have to fight and claw their way back into one of the top four spots in the Patriot League to assure themselves a spot in the league tournament. That means every league matchup takes on added importance for the Brown and White.
“I think we’re getting better, but if we play a good game on Tuesday, and a bad game on Saturday (against Army), that’s disappointing to us,” Koski said. “I think we just have to say this is a game where we can get a lot of guys minutes. And for the guys who haven’t played a lot this year, there will certainly be a level of excitement.”
This is the 19th meeting all time between the Mountain Hawks and Nittany Lions.
Live video coverage of Tuesday’s match will begin at 7 p.m. with Steve Lomangino and Robbie Aaron providing the commentary on Lehighsports.com.
