Smith honored by LVAIAW for on-field success

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior Christy Smith was honored on Wednesday afternoon at the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Awards Luncheon, held at nearby Moravian College.  Smith, who plays both varsity field hockey and lacrosse at Lehigh, was honored as an outstanding athlete for lacrosse among Lehigh Valley Colleges.  Smith joined Gina Lewandowski (women’s soccer) and Lisa Sweeney (softball) as Lehigh’s trio of award winners.    

 

A 2007 At-Large All-Patriot League selection in women’s lacrosse, Smith started all 17 games for the Mountain Hawks, scoring 22 goals and dishing out 11 assists along the way.  The engineering major also scooped up 31 ground balls, won 24 draw controls and scored four free position goals.  Smith scored four goals and handed out one assist in Lehigh’s victory over Villanova on April 10, while versus St. Joe’s on April 24, she netted a hat trick to help Lehigh down the Hawks 13-5.  Smith has earned a spot on the All-League teams for both women’s lacrosse and field hockey in each of the past two seasons and is a member of the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
