Mountain Hawks return home to face Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh returns to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday night at 7 p.m., for a league match with the Army Black Knights. It is the first home game for the Mountain Hawks since October 6, when the Brown and White beat Navy 3-0. Lehigh endured a tough road stretch, losing all four of its games, including two league matches against Holy Cross and first place American.

During their four game road trip, the Mountain Hawks were able to get goals from four different players, including two from junior Jim Taranto. Taranto picked up his second goal of the season against Maryland, to tie the game in the 79th minute. He also scored the first goal of the game against Holy Cross, while Matt McNeil recorded his first assist of the year on that goal.

Vinny Devine scored his second career goal in the second minute against Columbia; his first career goal came earlier this season on a game winner against Delaware. Freshman Matt Thaeder picked up his first career goal against Columbia coming in the ninth minute of play.

Kyle Evans picked up the other Lehigh goal during the road trip. One of the top scorers in the country, Evans was held in check throughout the road stretch until the second half against Columbia. The goal came in the 50th minute and was his league leading 10th goal of the season.

Despite already having three league losses, the Mountain Hawks are still alive for a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. With a win over Army, Lehigh would have six points and stand just one point behind Bucknell for the final spot. The Bison

host fifth place Lafayette Saturday night in Lewisburg, Pa.

The Black Knights snapped their five game winless streak Tuesday, when they beat NJIT 4-1 in West Point, N.Y. Army received goals from four different players to snap a four game scoreless streak as well. The four goal outburst moved Army up to second in the Patriot League in scoring, just one goal behind Lehigh for the league lead.

On offense the Black Knights are led by Chris Conklin, who has scored six goals and 14 points on the year. The senior midfielder is second in the Patriot League in scoring, four goals behind Evans for the lead.

Playing in net for Army will be A.J. Glubzinski, a junior from Novi, Michigan. Glubzinski has started 11 games for the Black Knights and is second in the Patriot League with a .825 save percentage. He ranks 39th in the country in this category and as a team Army is 25th in Division I with a .831 save percentage.

This is the 38th meeting all-time between the schools, with Army holding a slight 19-13-5 edge over the Mountain Hawks. However, it has been Lehigh that has dominated the series lately, riding a 10 game unbeaten streak, including wins in nine of those games. The last Army win came in 1996, a 3-1 decision in West Point. The Black Knights are still in search of their first win at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lehigh is 2-0-1 against Army at home since 2001 and has yet to lose at home to the Black Knights since the start of Patriot League play in 1990 (4-0-4).
