Verdi scored the second goal of his collegiate career when he had the Mountain Hawks’ game-winning goal on Wednesday against George Washington. He scored off a header from a pass from sophomore Adam Gazda. Verdi’s first goal came in 2004 against Drexel when he also scored off a header.
In addition to helping out the Mountain Hawks on offense, Verdi has been a key component to Lehigh’s stringent defense that consists of goalkeeper Jim Morahan and fellow backs junior Mike Hessemer, freshman Adam Welch and O’Reilly. The Mountain Hawks’ defense has only allowed four goals for the season—only one of which was scored on their homefield. The team boasts a 0.43 goals against average, which ranks second in the Patriot League and sixth nationally.
Lehigh continues with league play on Saturday night when it hosts defending regular-season champion American at 7:00pm at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game will have audio and video coverage on lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
