4/12/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA – Behind a five-goal effort from freshman Sara MacIntyre, Lehigh downed La Salle 13-12 on Wednesday afternoon to move the Mountain Hawks record to 6-7 overall for the season.  Freshman Meagan Tenety added three scores for the Brown and White, while junior Amy Chamberlain found the back of the net on two occasions.  La Salle, which falls to 5-8 on the season, was led on offense by Catie Bornema’s three scores.

Lehigh out shot the Explorers 30-25 on the afternoon and scooped up 31 ground balls to La Salle’s 31.  Lehigh won 12 draw controls, while the Explorers won 15, and the Mountain Hawks forced 21 La Salle turnovers.

Lehigh got on the board first when Tess McGrath scored just 1:33 into the contest, but from there, La Salle scored the game’s next four goals, to go up 4-1 at the 22:49 mark of the first half.  MacIntyre scored back-to-back goals in a span of 48 seconds to pull the Brown and White to just one score at the 18:42 mark.  La Salle scored again to go in front by two, but MacIntyre came right back and scored again, making the score 5-4 with 15:16 left.

La Salle scored back-to-back goals to go up 7-4 with 10:22 left in the half, but from there Lehigh netted four straight scores to go in front 8-7 with 1:47 left in the opening 30 minutes.  Christy Smith, MacIntyre, Lissy King and Tenety each scored once in the run.

Tenety then opened the second half with yet another goal, and Lehigh went up 9-7.  The Explorers scored two straight times though and tied the game at nine with 21:17 to go however, before Lehigh went on a 4-0 run, one score from Tenety and MacIntyre and another from Amy Chamberlain.  That run put the Mountain Hawks ahead 13-9 with 11:31 to go.  The Explorers made a late run of their own, but could not score after a goal at the 5:38 mark, and Lehigh took the victory back to Bethlehem.

Kyle Begina got the start in goal for Lehigh on Wednesday and faced eight shots, before giving way to Brittany Besler who stopped nine Explorer shots.

Lehigh will return to action on Saturday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks travel to Lewisburg for a pivotal Patriot League showdown against the Bison of Bucknell.  Game time is scheduled for 1:00.
