Drexel jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 17:45 behind three goals from Bill and two more from Hoesch. Lehigh finally got on the board when Tenety scored her first goal of the season with 14:27 remaining in the half, but Bill came right back and scored yet again to increase the Drexel lead to 6-1 with 13:25 left. Kara Chalanick then pulled the Brown and White to within four scores with her first goal of the year, but Drexel again had an answer, this time from Kaitlin Keegan to put the visitors in front 7-2.
Amy Chamberlain found the back of the net for the first time all day with 9:49 to go in the opening half and Lehigh’s deficit was again just four at 7-3. But Drexel scored the game’s next three goals and pushed its lead to 10-3 with 6:22 remaining. Tenety, Christy Smith and Pharoan then all scored in the final 3:12 of the half, and Lehigh was down just 12-7 at intermission.
Unfortunately, that was as close as the Brown and White would get all day, as the Dragons scored six unanswered goals in the second half to pull away for the win. Lehigh scooped up 22 ground balls for the game, compared to the Dragon’s 12, but did turn the ball over 23 times. The Dragons also out shot the Mountain Hawks 36-18 on the day.
Brittany Besler got the start in goal for the Mountain Hawks and recorded nine saves in 57 minutes of action, before giving way to Kyle Begina, who did not have any saves in her time. Drexel goal keeper Lauren LaBella stopped eight shots and her back up Rachael Behrndt recorded one in just over two minutes of action.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to
