BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh won its second straight game on Sunday afternoon downing visiting Longwood by a score of 13-11 at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Junior Amy Chamberlain and freshman Sara MacIntyre scored four goals apiece for the Mountain Hawks, who improve to 3-4 overall. Longwood, who falls to 1-7, was led on offense by Emily Bikowski and her six goals.

Head coach Liz Ota commented after the Mountain Hawks third game in five days.  “Actually I thought we were a little tired out there today.  But we showed a lot of mental toughness and got a really nice boast from Kyle (Begina) in goal today, who just played beautifully for us.”  Ota continued, “These are two teams (St. Joe’s and Longwood) that we lost to last year and we told the girls that this was a chance to prove ourselves, which we did.  We just gutted it out today.  It wasn’t the greatest showing, but I thought the girls really played to win, rather than not to lose.”

Begina finished the game with 15 saves, as the senior won her second straight game in goal for the Brown and White.  Sophomore Christy Smith scored twice for Lehigh and dished out two assists, while freshmen Meagan Tenety and Meghan Tranter both handed out two helpers in the win.  Lehigh was out shot 30-25 for the game, and scooped up 18 ground balls to the visitors 20.  The Mountain Hawks turned the ball over 11 times and forced nine Lancer TO’s, while both teams won 13 draw controls.

Bikowski put Longwood on the board first just seconds into this one, but Lehigh came right back as MacIntyre and Smith scored back-to-back goals to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-1 lead with 19:54 remaining in the half.  After another Longwood score by Bikowski, the Mountain Hawks scored the game’s next three goals, two from Chamberlain and one from Kara Chalanick, to pull ahead 5-2 with just 5:26 to go.  Longwood then scored the contest’s next two goals to get within one, but MacIntyre found the back of the net with only 40 ticks left and Lehigh headed into halftime with a 6-4 advantage.

Smith scored her sixth goal of the season to open the second half, and the Mountain Hawks found themselves ahead 7-4.  Bikowski then competed her hat trick to make the score 7-5 in favor of the home team, but Chamberlain and Tenety scored a pair of goals in just 50 seconds, putting Lehigh ahead 9-5 with 22:46 to go.

The Lancers then went on a run of their own, scoring three consecutive goals to get within a single score at 9-8 with 16:10 to go, but Chamberlain scored her 13th goal of the season and Lehigh went up 10-8 with 15:23 left.  However, the Lancers refused to go quietly, and tied the score at ten on a pair of goals, one from Bikowski and another from Shannon Strain, and with 13:11 to go, the teams were deadlocked.

Chamberlain then broke the tie with her fifth and final goal at the 8:51 mark off of an assist from Smith, and then MacIntyre scored her team-leading 22nd goal of the year just 1:54 later and the Mountain Hawks went up 12-10.  Tenety then added a late insurance goal and the Mountain Hawks won back-to-back games for the first time all season.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, March 25 when the Mountain Hawks welcome Patriot League foe Holy Cross to the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Game time is set for 1:00 and all of the action will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com.
