BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the third time this week, the No. 18 Mountain Hawks added to their growing list of accomplishments on Wednesday as senior back Joe Verdi was named to the Soccer America team of the week. This is the second accomplishment for Verdi this week, who was also named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as well as the second national team of the week recognition for Verdi. Earlier in this season, Verdi was named to the College Soccer News team of the week.
Verdi scored his third game-winning goal in the Mountain Hawks’ 2-0 victory over the Bucknell Bison on Saturday night. Senior Tom Zubulake launched a throw-in about 20 yards into the box where the Ivyland, Pa. native headed the ball into the net. It was the second time Verdi had the game-winning goal in a week. On Sunday, October 8, he scored the first goal in the Mountain Hawks’ 5-0 victory over Army. Additionally, Verdi’s game-winning header was his second of the season. His first one was in Lehigh’s 2-0 win over George Washington in Washington, D.C.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Verdi and the Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday night in Hamilton, N.Y. where they will face the Colgate Raiders. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
