BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping lead Lehigh to a 1-0 shut out of previously unbeaten No. 20 Binghamton on Saturday, sophomore Charlie Sales has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday. The Illinois native recorded seven saves in goal for the Mountain Hawks, en route to his eighth career shut out, and lowered his season goals against average to 0.50. Sales has registered three shut outs thus far this season, totaling 14 saves along the way.
This is the second time Sales has been honored as the Patriot League’s Defensive Player of the Week. He received the honor last season after shutting out Bucknell in his first-ever collegiate start in mid-October. Sales then went onto break the school record for lowest GAA in history, at 0.43.
Sales and the No. 30 Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday evening, when they welcome a very strong Navy squad to the Ulrich Sports Complex in the league opener for both teams. Game time is scheduled for approximately 7:30.
