Malek who was named the Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2005 Patriot League Outdoor Championships after winning both the high jump and the decathlon, entered a field of 28 jumpers this weekend. He arrived in Sacramento after finishing in a third place tie at the NCAA East Regionals over Memorial Day Weekend, when he cleared a personal best 6’11”, which also broke his own school record from earlier this season. Malek is just the second Lehigh athlete ever to qualify for the Outdoor National Championships, joining Lauren Barrett, who qualified in 2003 in the javelin.
