Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh fell to Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 15-11, the Mountain Hawks third straight loss.  Amy Chamberlain did her best to keep the Brown and White in it, with three goals and an assist, while Lissy King added two scores.  With the loss Lehigh falls to 3-3, while the Hawks improve to 1-2 in 2005.

Monmouth scored the game’s first two goals in the first two minutes of the contest, and Lehigh did not get on the board until Vienna Pharaon tallied a score at the 18:30 mark of the half.  Monmouth would score the game’s next two goals however and led 4-1 with nine minutes to go in the opening half.  Senior Barrie Cominsky got Lehigh back on track with a score of her own, but the home team found the back of the net two more times before the half and took a 6-2 advantage into the locker room.

Monmouth started fast in the second half as well, netting a score just 53 seconds in, but a goal by Christy Smith and two by Chamberlain gave Lehigh some life and cut the Hawks lead down to two, at 7-5.  Monmouth reeled off three more scores to go in front 10-5, but Libby Gill, Kara Chalanick, and King scored one goal each in a span of just 37 seconds, and the Mountain Hawks were within two at 10-8.  Megan Nutter scored twice and Carolyn Raveia scored the last of her five goals of the day however for Monmouth and the lead ballooned back up to five at 13-8.  Chamberlain and King both scored in the final two minutes, but Monmouth was able to hang on for its first win of the season.

Lehigh was out shot on the day, 34-24, and had 21 turnovers, compared to just 12 for Monmouth.  The Mountain Hawks scooped up 17 groundballs on the day, and won 12 of 26 draw controls for the game.  In goal for the Brown and White, Kyle Begina got the start and sent back 12 shots for Lehigh, while Brittany Bessler saw eight minutes of action and registered three saves on the day.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks welcome St. Joe’s to the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Game time is set for 1:00.
