Men take second, women place third at Delaware

Newark, DE – In their final tune-up before next weekend’s Patriot League Championships, Lehigh turned in a pair of solid performances at the Thomson Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware. The Mountain Hawk men placed third in the 15-team event, while the Lehigh women placed third, just two points behind second place Temple. Towson, Villanova, Lafayette and La Salle were among the other teams in the field.

 

The women came up two points short of victory, but did pick up several individual wins. Lauren Edwards took first place in the high jump, while Tracie Fails and Liz Haight placed 1-2 in the 800 meter run. Jen Schappert took first place in the mile with a time of 5:10.86.

 

On the men’s side Vaclav Malek took first in the high jump. Dave Merola and Brian Ahearn took the top two spots in the 800 meters. Rob Hampson took first place in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:58.90, while Lavar Pope finished second in the 60 meter dash.

The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend as Lehigh hosts the Patriot League Indoor Championships beginning Friday at Rauch Fieldhouse.
