BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After battling the elements in its match at American on Sunday, and watching the rain wash out the scheduled game with Villanova on Wednesday, Lehigh is anxious to get back out on the pitch this weekend, as the Mountain Hawks welcome Army to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday evening. Lehigh, tied for fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, is currently 6-2-1 overall, 2-1 in Patriot League action, and has not yet lost or even allowed a goal at home this season. The Black Knights arrive in Bethlehem with a record of 3-8-1 overall, and 1-1 in league action.
The Mountain Hawks once again feature one of the toughest defenses in the country to score upon, ranking 16th in shut out percentage (0.56) and 17th in team goals against average (0.64). Lehigh also leads the Patriot League in goals allowed and goals allowed per game. Sophomore goal keeper Charlie Sales is 19th in America and first in the league in goal against average, and the Illinois native ranks second in the league in shut outs with five.
Seniors Jim Stevens and Adam Williamson are tied for third in the league in goals with four, while Williamson is tied for second in points, totaling 11 thus far. Lehigh is unbeaten in its last eight matches versus Army, including a 1-0 victory last season in West Point on the strength of Williamson’s game-winning goal. Over the past three-plus seasons, the Brown and White is an incredible 18-4-7 at home, including a perfect 3-0 mark this year.
Army comes to Lehigh following a 1-1 tie versus Sacred Heart on October 11 in Fairfield, Conn. The Black Knights are unbeaten in their last three matches, including a pivotal 1-0 shut out of league foe Bucknell on October 1 in West Point. Army’s top goal scorer is Adrian Moreno with four, while Garrett Dresel has added two. Chase Hunter is the leading assist man with four, while in goal, freshman John-Michael Gallogly has sent back 34 shots in 1,010 minutes of action.
Saturday’s match is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex. All of the action will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with streaming video and audio provided by Yahoo! Sports. Jeff Tourial and Steve Lomangino will provide the commentary.
