Gainesville, FL - Three Lehigh athletes headed to Florida over the Memorial Day weekend and each posted solid showings at the NCAA East Regional Championships, which took place on the campus of the University of Florida.  Senior George Evans raced his way to a 17th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.43, while junior Deanna Willard placed 30th in the 3,000-meter steeple-chase.  Sophomore Lauren Barrett, competing in her second consecutive NCAA Regional, came in 24th place in the javelin.

Willard posted a time of 11:12.27, which was better than eight other competitors.  Helen Hofstede of Florida State took first in the event.  Evans completed his stellar season with a solid showing in the 200-meters. Jerome Mathis of Hampton took the crown in that event, while Barrett posted a better toss than five other athletes in her field.  Inge Jorgensen of Virginia was the winer in the javelin.

The host Florida Gators took home the team title on the women's side with 85 points, followed by fellow Southeastern Conference member South Carolina in second place.  In the men's competition, the Gators made it a clean sweep, racking up 125.50 points, more than 50 points better than second place Georgia.
