2/15/2004 12:00:00 AM | Baseball

Lake Charles, LA – Freshman Joel Hockman pitched seven shutout innings as Lehigh completed a three-game sweep over McNeese State with a 3-0 victory over the host Cowboys at Cowboy Diamond on Sunday afternoon.  The Mountain Hawks return to Bethlehem with a perfect 3-0 record, while the defending Southland Conference champions are 1-5.

Hockman (1-0) scattered five hits and recorded seven strikeouts en route to the win.  Junior Matt Mezzancello shut down the McNeese State offense over the final two innings to record his first save of the season.

Offensively, Lehigh strung together three runs in the seventh inning to pick up the win.  Forrest Doane singled in a run and later scored himself in the frame.  Freshman designated hitter Nick Bet registered an RBI single as well.

Lehigh returns to the diamond on Wednesday, February 25, as the Mountain Hawks visit Coppin State.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 from Baltimore.
